Dexter: Original Sin Teaser Reveals Killer’s Origins

The much-anticipated prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, brings Dexter Morgan back to the screen.

This series, debuting on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13, stars Patrick Gibson as the infamous character.

Gibson’s Dexter transitions from student to a ruthless serial killer.

The show tracks Dexter as he struggles with his dark urges and learns to channel them effectively. With guidance from his father, Harry, portrayed by Christian Slater, Dexter adopts a code to eliminate those who deserve to be removed from society. The challenge grows as Dexter starts a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

In the initial teaser for this crime drama, Gibson emerges from an elevator.

Michael C. Hall, the original Dexter, narrates, “I am a killer.” Hall’s voiceover reveals that Dexter’s dark nature stems from his past and the influences around him. The teaser also briefly shows CSI chief Tanya Martin, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, with Harry.

With urgent, bass-heavy music in the background, the teaser introduces more of the star-studded cast, including Christina Milian and Patrick Dempsey. It also includes scenes of a high school brawl. Hall’s narration emphasizes, “They say it takes a village to raise a killer,” as Dexter is seen wielding a distinctive knife.

The teaser concludes with a close-up of Dexter’s intense expression before displaying the show’s blood-red title.

The cast of Dexter: Original Sin includes Patrick Gibson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, Christina Milian, Molly Brown, Debra Morgan, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson. Clyde Phillips, who ran the original series, returns to lead the prequel.

Network executives chose Gellar, Slater, and Dempsey to authentically capture the 1990s setting. Their previous roles in notable 1990s projects and their continued stardom played a significant role in this decision.

Dexter: Original Sin follows the original Dexter series, which aired from 2006 to 2013 and included eight seasons. The original show, starring Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter, led to the miniseries Dexter: New Blood.

The original Dexter series won four Emmy Awards, including outstanding directing for a drama series in 2010 and outstanding guest actor in a drama series for John Lithgow’s portrayal of Arthur Mitchell. Hall also earned a Golden Globe in 2010 for best actor in a TV drama.

Mark your calendars: Dexter: Original Sin premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13 and on Showtime in the U.S. on December 15.
