Glenn Close Cancels Oscar Appearance Due to COVID

It is hopeful that this year’s Academy Awards offered all that you were looking forward to! But some fans may have been disappointed to find out Glenn Close would not be in attendance. She had to bow out of her scheduled appearance due to a positive COVID test.

Close was scheduled to present with Harrison Ford in what could have been an Air Force One reunion. But the 75-year-old actress was forced to stay home after testing positive for COVID over the weekend.

“Yes, she has COVID and she is, of course, required to bow out. She was very much looking forward to taking part,” Close’s representative said in a statement.

Close starred with Harrison Ford in Air Force One, a 1997 thriller about the hijacking of a U.S. President’s (Ford’s) aircraft. Close played the vice president monitoring the action from the White House Situation Room. The movie grossed $315 at the box office and earned two Oscar nominations for Best Sound and Best Film Editing.

Close is far from the only actor to bow out of the Oscars due to a last-minute COVID test. Last year Lin-Manual Miranda had to cancel his appearance when his wife tested positive for COVID. He was up for Best Original Song for the “Dos Oruguitas” for the film “Encanto”. He did not win, but if he had, he would have cemented his EGOT (Emmy Grammy Oscar Tony) status.

Glenn Close is no stranger to the Oscars. She has earned eight Academy Award nominations for her starring roles in Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons. She was also nominated as best supporting actress for her roles in The World According to Garp, The Big Chill, The Natural, Albert Nobbs, The Wife, and Hillbilly Elegy.

Although there are no reports on Close’s current health, she is expected to be okay.
