Former NFL Player Mike Williams Died Tuesday Morning

Former NFL player, Mike Williams, died on Tuesday morning in Tampa, Florida.

According to reports Williams was doing some electrical work when he was severely injured and taken to the hospital. A steel beam landed on Williams’s head while he was fixing the electrical work, and he was taken to the hospital immediately. But the wound that he got from the beam became infected, and for his best the doctors had him put in an induced coma.

Williams’ injury was so severe that he was put on life-support after a few days in the hospital. And his family elected to turn off his ventilator on Tuesday morning. His agent, Hadley Engelhard, passed on the news that the 36-year-old athlete had passed away. “He will be missed. He thought hard his whole life. Prayers to his family.“

Tierney Lyle, the mother of Williams’ daughter gave a statement regarding his death. She said, “he goes hard in everything he does… He doesn’t give up easily at all.”

Williams was a native of Buffalo, New York, and played sports like football and basketball before going to Syracuse University. There, he started his football career as a wide receiver for three years. He also played for the basketball team of Syracuse for one season in 2007.

Mike Williams started his career in the NFL in 2010 when he was selected in the fourth draft by Tampa Bay. He was a standout during that first season and eventually reached the all-rookie selection. He played three more seasons with the Buccaneers and had a track record of just 4 yards short of the thousand-yard mark Back in 2012. The following year he was able to sign a contract with the Buccaneers for an extra five-year extension on the playing field. But his tent would be cut short when he got traded to the Buffalo Bills during the 2014 off-season.

The Tampa Bay buccaneer made a statement of condolence an X, saying, “We are saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates, and fans with heavy hearts, we send our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as they mourn this tragedy.“

Although Mike Williams retired early from his NFL career, he made his mark with 223 catches for 3089 yards and 26 touchdowns with 52 starts for 63 games in his four years playing for the Buccaneers and a year of playing for the Buffalo Bills.
