Prince Harry Visits Queen Elizabeth’s Burial Site on the First Anniversary of Her Passing

During his recent UK trip, the Prince Harry visited Queen Elizabeth’s grave on the first anniversary of her death.

Prince Harry made a discreet trip to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where he had exchanged vows with Meghan Markle in May 2018.

This private visit took place on a Friday, according to The Telegraph. A reliable source within the royal circle confirmed that some other royal family members also paid their respects at the chapel on the anniversary.

Queen Elizabeth died at age 96 in Balmoral Castle, Scotland, on September 8, 2022. Her state funeral and committal service took place on September 19, and she was laid to rest in the King George VI Memorial Chapel within the Windsor Castle grounds. The burial site also houses the remains of her late husband, Prince Philip, who passed away at the age of 99 in April 2021, as well as her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and her sister, Princess Margaret.

Prince Harry traveled from California, where he resides with Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for his U.K. visit. On Thursday, he attended the annual WellChild Awards, a charity supporting seriously ill children, of which he has been the patron for 15 years.

Last year, Prince Harry and Meghan planned to attend the WellChild Awards in London on September 8 last year, but due to concerns about Queen Elizabeth’s health, they canceled their appearance, and Harry traveled to Scotland.

During Thursday’s event, Prince Harry took the stage to present an award and spoke about his grandmother, stating, “As you know, I was unable to attend the awards last year as my grandmother passed away. As you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her. And that’s precisely why I know, exactly one year on, she is looking down on all of us tonight, happy we’re together continuing to spotlight such an incredible community.”

Prince Harry is not anticipated to meet with his father, King Charles, or his brother, Prince William, during his stay in England. King Charles observed the anniversary of his mother’s passing and his own accession to the throne at Balmoral, while Prince William and Kate Middleton visited Wales on Friday.

The Prince and Princess of Wales participated in a brief private service at the historic St. Davids Cathedral, where they honored Queen Elizabeth’s memory on the one-year anniversary of her passing.

Prince Harry’s next destination is Germany, where the sixth edition of his Invictus Games is set to start this weekend. His wife, Meghan, 42, is expected to join him at the event early next week.
